SMSA Team Racing Championship: Register Here Who is Participating
SOUTHERN MASS TEAM RACE CHAMPIONSHIPS
CBC (NEW BEDFORD) & NBYC
AUGUST 7- 8, 2008
Eleven SMSA A Teams and one B Team competed in the SMSA Team Racing season championship last Thursday and Friday. The host site was Community Boating Center’s Clark’s Cove site off of Buzzards Bay. CBC was an ideal site as the course could be set near their big pier, to create a nice team race arena. Also, CBC supplied 12 evenly-matched 420s, helping staff and a power boat to the event. New Bedford Yacht Club also supported the event by supplying an additional 12 420s as well as Race Committee and umpiring support. The event proved to be a success despite the light conditions. The Race Committee, led by volunteer Jim Logue, was able to fit in a full round robin the first day and a championship round robin the next. The races featured on-the-water “limited” umpiring, which resulted in very few protests after the racing. Thanks to lead umpires John Pratt, Nick Ewenson and Justin Law for keeping the peace.
Congratulations to the winning team, New Bedford YC, and runners up Wianno YC and Vineyard Haven YC. Congratulations to Wequaquet Lake YC for qualifying from the B Team level and trying their skills at the A level, and also for sporting the fantastic blue jerseys.
We will conduct both A and B division Team Racing in Southern Mass this year. A big thanks to Joel Hanneman for reviving our long standing tradition.Below are the documents for Team Racing in both divisions. Please keep these handy as they contain contacts and schedules for the entire summer. A Division meets will feature an experienced Team Racing Clinic before sailing and will be designed for our sailors to become better by practice. All A division teams will compete in the Finals hosted by Community Boating and New Bedford Yacht Club on August 7-8, 2008. This will be an umpired event. As well, one team will qualify out of each Regional B division group for the Finals. This will make for some exciting Team Racing in Southern Mass.
