SM Sailing Prince of Wales Bowl

In 1965, the Vineyard Haven Yacht Club restored the Prince of Wales Bowl to competition by deeding it SM Sailing as the championship trophy for an interclub match racing tournament. The trophy was original establish in 1931 for internation match racing competition for junior yachtsmen of both Canada and the United States. The Bowl was won by Vineyard Haven skippers Frank B. Jewett, Jr. and Kingman Brewster, Jr. in 1934, 1935, and 1937 and was retired by virtue of the three wins. The original Prince of Wales Bowl has now been deeded to the North American Inter-Club Match Race Championship, which was first held in 1967 for association champions of the previous year. A miniature replica of the Bowl, emblematic of the SM Sailing match racing championship, donated by Mr. Jewett as a perpetual trophy, is awarded to the member club of SM Sailing whose crew wins the final series of the SM Sailing tournament.
