Edwin Ginn of Beverly Yacht Club placed the Ginn Cup in competition in 1955. The trophy is emblematic of the men's senior championship of SM Sailing and is awarded to the crew from a member Yacht Club of SM Sailing that attains the lowest point score in the district finals for the Nation Men's Championship. The name of the skipper of the winning crew, together with the date, are engraved upon the permanent trophy. The members of the winning crew each receive suitable memento trophies.
